Soft-Serve Custard made in the FreezyFun Ultimate Frozen Drink & Soft-Serve Maker
Ready to get started with your new FreezyFun Ultimate Frozen Drink & Soft-Serve Maker? Here are our best tips for getting started, getting comfortable, and sipping pretty with your new fave small appliance.
Top Tips for Success
Where to start. The first time you use your FreezyFun, start with something from the One-Ingredient Wins chart in the Getting Started guide. From there, move on to the Two-Ingredient Twists and other recipes included in the guide. They’ve all been tested in our Test Kitchen and will set you up for delicious success while you get familiar with your new product.
Well-Mixed ingredients. Knowing that sugar and alcohol amounts are important to the success of your treat, thoroughly stirring them ensures that those elements are consistently distributed throughout the liquid you’ve added to the tank.
Room temperature can affect your machine’s output. Start at a lower thickness and increase gradually to prevent your treat from over-freezing. Cooler environment temperatures mean the FreezyFun is more efficient and the auger in your machine can freeze temporarily (if it does, just shut the machine off for about ten minutes to fix it).
What to Expect
The FreezyFun can run up to 12 hours while maintaining ready-to-serve treats, but plan on dispensing drinks and soft serve regularly to keep them from freezing too hard and clogging the dispensing chute.
Citric acid and turmeric or other intense dyes may cloud or discolor the plastic. It’s expected and doesn’t impact usage, but if that is something that will bother you, avoid those beverages.
For thorough cleaning after creamy treats, run the wash preset cycle a couple of times to rinse the tank, and then use your dishwasher for the dishwasher-safe parts. Don’t use bleach, denture cleaner, etc., as they aren’t necessary for cleanliness, won’t remove discoloration, and can potentially harm your FreezyFun.
Experimenting With New Flavors and Creating Your Own Recipes
After you’ve made a few recipes from the Getting Started guide, if you want to experimenting with new flavors and creating your own recipes, use the following sugar and alcohol guidelines:
Look at sugar – You’ll want at least 4% sugar in your liquid ingredient(s) and will get ideal results if it’s under 16%. To calculate the percentage of sugar, divide the grams of total sugar per serving by the number of grams in the full serving and then multiply by 100. 25% is the max amount of sugar to use before you risk ending up with a treat that’s more syrup than slush.
Sugar substitutes – you can try allulose as a sugar substitute. Follow the package directions for substituting for real sugar. If you want to use a sugar-free or low-sugar ingredient in your creation, add a natural sweetener to get enough sugar for the FreezyFun to make slush. Good options include coconut sugar, maple syrup, agave syrup, simple syrup, or honey.
If you’re using alcohol, keep it between 2.8% and 16% for a great spiked slush consistency.
Whole milk works best for making soft serve. We do have a test-kitchen approved Vegan Soft Serve recipe that uses a combination of alternative milks.
Blend fruit, cottage cheese, or any other ingredients you’re experimenting with until they’re perfectly smooth before adding them to the tank. This will prevent blockages.
